This guide shows you how to transfer a full account backup from cPanel directly to your VPS using Secure Copy (SCP). This method ensures your backup files are securely transferred to your VPS without needing to download them locally first.

How to Transfer the Backup

  1. Step 1: Access cPanel Backup

    Sign in to your cPanel account and navigate to the Files section. Click on the Backup option.

  2. Step 2: Start Full Account Backup

    Click the Download a Full Account Backup option. You will be redirected to the backup configuration page.

  3. Step 3: Configure Backup Destination

    Select Secure Copy (SCP) as the destination for the backup.

  4. Step 4: Set Email Notification

    Enter the email address where you wish to receive completion notifications. If you prefer not to receive notifications, check the option below the email address field.

  5. Step 5: Enter VPS Connection Details

    Fill in the following fields:

    • Remote Server: Enter the IP address of your VPS
    • Remote User: Specify the username (leave empty to default to root user)
    • Remote Password: Enter the password for the user account
    • Port: Enter the SSH port (optional, defaults to 22 if left empty)
    • Remote Dir: Specify the directory path on your VPS where the backup should be transferred
  6. Step 6: Generate the Backup

    Click the Generate Backup button to start the transfer process. The backup will be created and transferred directly to your VPS via SCP.
