This article explains how to create and enable custom error pages in Plesk. When visitors enter an incorrect URL or try to access restricted directories, they see an error page. By default, Plesk displays a standard error page, but you can customize these pages with your own branding, corporate images, or helpful links to improve the user experience.
Background
Creating a customized error page is optional. If you don't create one, Plesk will display a default error page. Custom error pages allow you to maintain brand consistency and provide visitors with useful navigation options when errors occur.
How to do it
-
Step 1: Create the custom error page
You have two options for creating the content for your custom error page:
- Using Plesk File Manager: Create a new file directly in the File Manager and edit it on the web server.
- Using a local text editor: Create the custom error page on your local computer using your preferred text editor, then upload the file to your account.
-
Step 2: Enable the custom error page
Follow these steps to enable your custom error pages:
- Login to Plesk.
- On the left sidebar, click on Websites & Domains.
- Find the domain for which you want to create the custom error page and click on Virtual Directories.
- Click on the Error Documents tab.
- Find the error condition you want to change and click on it.
- On the Edit Error Document page, in the Type list box, select one of the following options:
- Default: The website uses the Windows IIS default error page.
- File: The file should already exist in the error-doc directory.
- URL: The error document is located in a directory other than error_docs.
- In the Location text box, enter the filename or URL for the custom error page.
- Click OK.
