This guide explains how to edit a virtual directory in Plesk. Virtual directories allow you to map a URL path to a physical directory location on your server, and you can modify their settings at any time through the Plesk control panel. This feature is particularly useful for organizing your website files or pointing specific URLs to different parts of your server.

How to do it

  1. Step 1: Log in to Plesk

To begin, open your web browser and navigate to the login page of your Plesk control panel. Enter your username and password when prompted. If you have forgotten your credentials, use the "Forgot Password" option to reset them.

  2. Step 2: Select the domain

Once logged in, locate the "Websites & Domains" section on the left-hand side of the Plesk dashboard. Click on it to view a list of all domains associated with your account. Find and click on the domain for which you want to modify the virtual directory.

  3. Step 3: Locate the virtual directory

In the domain management page, look for the "Virtual Directories" section. This is typically found under the "Hosting Settings" tab or as a separate option in the list of features. Click on it to see all existing virtual directories. Find the virtual directory you wish to edit by reviewing its properties such as URL path and physical path. Once located, click on the pencil icon (edit) next to it.

  4. Step 4: Access properties page

After clicking the edit icon, you will be taken to the "Virtual Directory Properties" page. Here, you can view and modify various settings of the virtual directory. The available options may include changing the URL path, setting permissions, configuring ASP.NET settings (if applicable), and adjusting other properties specific to your server environment.

  5. Step 5: Modify settings

To make changes, simply update the fields with new values as required. For example, if you want to change the URL path or physical directory location, enter the new details in their respective fields. Be cautious when adjusting permissions and other advanced settings; incorrect configurations can affect your website's functionality.

After making all necessary changes, click on the "OK" button at the bottom of the page to save your modifications. Plesk will apply the changes, and you should see the updated virtual directory properties reflected in the list.

Tips:
- Always ensure that the physical path points to a valid directory on your server to avoid errors.
- It's a good practice to back up important files before making changes to virtual directories.
- If you are unsure about certain settings, consult with your hosting provider or refer to Plesk's official documentation for guidance.
